Ireland – Last Day 8 – Newgrange and Monasterboice

Early start on the final day to ‘beat the rush’ at the World Heritage site at Newgrange. Actually there turned out to be two sites, the first at Knowth being the better (in my view!)

IMG_3124 IMG_3125 IMG_3126 IMG_3128 IMG_3129 IMG_3135 IMG_3146 IMG_1321  IMG_3148 IMG_3152 IMG_3164 IMG_3165 IMG_3169

and then on the more famous Newgrange. Note the reconstructed huge front wall. Most of the site people had a view that the professor in charge of the rebuild had got it badly wrong. I agree.

IMG_3173 IMG_3175 IMG_3177 IMG_3185 IMG_3190

And then on to Slane for lunch. Unfortunately the Castle was closed. Still, great fun at the cafe where the waitress went to the pub accross the road to get me a pint of Guinness to go with my lunch.

IMG_3192 IMG_1329 IMG_1330

A walk by the Boyne to see Slane Castle from afar

IMG_3193 IMG_3197 IMG_3198 IMG_3200

Then to Monasterboice to see the biggest Celtic crosses in Ireland.

IMG_3201 IMG_3203 IMG_3207 IMG_3211 IMG_3212 IMG_3220

And then dropped in at Drogheda for a quick look

IMG_3222 IMG_3223 IMG_3225 IMG_3227 IMG_3231 IMG_3235 IMG_3242 IMG_3243 IMG_3244 IMG_3248

….and then back to the airport….

IMG_2641 IMG_2643 IMG_2645 IMG_2647 IMG_2649 IMG_2652

In particular we stopped at Kenmare for a walk round and a beer.
